  • Packed with activity tracking features
  • Still great value for money, affordably priced

  • Well crafted interface

Cons

  • Basic recovery metrics

Design

The Amazfit GTS 4 and its predecessor, the GTS 3, have the same 1.75-inch AMOLED color touchscreen, 390 x 450-pixel resolution, tempered glass covering, and anti-fingerprint coating. The 42mm case size is right in the middle for most users, and it's also extremely light. It is a little thicker than the GTS 3, likely due to the addition of a microphone and speaker. While the build quality is a bit cheap-feeling, the display is as good as any device.

The design is functional for exercise, sleep, and wearing with sleeves. It looks similar to the Apple Watch, but without the hefty price tag. In conclusion, the design of the GTS 4 is well-suited for everyday wear and activities, making it an affordable and practical option for those looking for a smartwatch.

Smartwatch features

Amazfit GTS 4 Review

The Amazfit GTS 4 looks like an Apple Watch clone, but it has a few features that set it apart. It has a built-in speaker and microphone, allowing you to make Bluetooth calls and use Amazon's Alexa to read out answers aloud. You can also download music files onto the watch, so you can listen to them while on the go. However, one downside is that it doesn't have NFC payments. But, you can add QR codes to the watch through the Zepp app.

Another downside is that there are no third-party apps available on the Zepp store, however, there is an impressive library of in-house watch faces for you to choose from. Overall, it appears that the GTS 4 is more geared toward being a fitness tracker rather than a true smartwatch. With its impressive array of features, it provides great value for money.

Tracking features

The Amazfit GTS 4 is a smartwatch packed with plenty of tracking features, many of which are inspired by the likes of Garmin. It provides a wealth of tracked metrics such as Training Effect, gradient distribution, cadence, stride length, VO2 Max, and EPOC. For sleep monitoring, it provides accurate data with labels such as 'Low', 'Normal', and 'Relaxed'. The GTS 4 also comes with health metrics such as blood oxygen readings and resting heart rate estimates.

One unique feature of the GTS 4 is the PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) metric. Developed through research studies, PAI is a score based on your activity data. You will have to do some research to understand how PAI works and what it means for you. Overall, the GTS 4 offers a wide range of tracking metrics, allowing users to gain a better understanding of their performance and physical fitness.

GPS accuracy testing

Amazfit GTS 4 Review

The Amazfit GTS 4 promises more accurate tracking than what has come before. To test this, we took the GTS 4 for a 10-kilometer run and compared it to a premium Garmin model.

Overall, the GTS 4 tended to slightly underreport distances. However, considering the GTS 4 is one of the cheaper wearables available with dual-band GPS, it performed very well in comparison to the Garmin model. The differences in distance readings were minimal, and not enough to take away from the overall accuracy of the device.

Battery life

The Amazfit GTS 4 is advertised to have eight days of battery life, however, the actual battery life depends on the features enabled and disabled. With the always-on display on and 30-60 minutes of tracked GPS exercise, the battery will drain by 20-25%. With the always-on display off, the GTS 4 can manage around four weeks of battery life. Amazfit also includes a battery-saving mode that disables heart rate and sleep monitoring for those who want to extend battery life even further. The Amazfit GTS 4 is powered by a 300 mAh battery that is rated for four days of use with normal usage, 16 days with Battery Saver Mode, 30 days with Clock Mode, 16 hours with Accuracy GPS Mode, 28 hours with Balanced GPS Mode, and 33 hours with Power Saving GPS Mode. Battery Saver Mode enables continued use of features like sports modes and health metrics while saving power. So if you're looking for a great smartwatch with excellent battery life, the Amazfit GTS 4 is a perfect choice!

Price and competition

Amazfit GTS 4 Review

The Amazfit GTS 4 is a bit more expensive than the GTS 3, but it is still affordable compared to other smartwatches in its class. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Fitbit Versa 4 are its main competitors. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 provides more smartwatch functionality and integration with third-party apps. However, the GTS 4 is still a viable option for those looking for more of a tracker than a phone companion. At its price point, the GTS 4 offers impressive features and quality that rival higher-priced smartwatches. Its value for money is still superb, making it an excellent choice for those looking for a quality tracker at an affordable price.

Verdict

The Amazfit GTS 4 is an excellent smartwatch for everyday use. It features a crisp AMOLED display, good strap quality, and a lightweight design. Tracking workouts and monitoring heart rate and SpO2 works well and produces accurate results. Additionally, the integration of Amazon Alexa is useful, and the addition of offline voice control is a bonus. The battery life is great, and charging times are acceptable. The only downside is that you can't reply to messages straight from the watch. When compared to the GTR 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, the GTS 4 is reliable and should make it into your list.
